Hudson High School is set to present "Footloose the Musical," a production based on the 1984 movie starring Kevin Bacon. The story follows Ren and his mother as they move from Chicago to a small farming town, where Ren faces an adjustment period at his new high school. He encounters strict local rules, including a ban on dancing imposed by the local preacher who seeks to control the town's youth.
The plot thickens when the preacher's rebellious daughter becomes interested in Ren, leading her boyfriend to attempt to tarnish Ren's reputation. This narrative juxtaposes a father mourning his lost son with a young man yearning for the father who abandoned him. The musical features a mix of its Oscar and Tony-nominated Top 40 score along with new songs, celebrating the importance of listening to young people while guiding them with compassion.
