The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire volleyball team hosted their home opener on Wednesday in the McPhee Gymnasium, facing off against the College of Saint Benedict Bennies. UW-Eau Claire secured a 3-0 sweep with 46 kills.
Mya Cinnamo, Hanne Johnson, and Bailey Leeke combined for 36 kills as the Blugolds' offense maintained momentum throughout the match. Following a five-point run to end the first set, Eau Claire achieved a 42.9% attack rate to claim the second set with a score of 25-18. Despite facing set point late in the third set, the Blugolds went on a 4-1 run to complete the sweep. Hannah Thole contributed 36 assists, while Kaitlyn Erickson recorded 17 digs.
The Blugolds (5-3-0) will remain at home to kick off their annual Sandy Schumacher Memorial Tournament presented by BSN SPORTS/Nike on Friday, September 13th against Colorado College. The tournament will be held in the new Sonnentag Event Center.
