The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's soccer team traveled to Chicago for their first away game of the season, facing North Park University in a nonconference match. Both teams created opportunities to score, but strong defensive efforts and goalkeeping resulted in a 0-0 draw.
Spencer Banks, a senior from Stevens Point, Wisconsin, stopped all four shots he faced, securing his first shutout of the season. His record now stands at 1-0-1.
Offensively, Nathan Donovan (Sr. – Hazel Green, Wis.), Carson Kowalski (Jr. – Mundelein, Ill.), Carter Thiesfeld (Sr. – Forest Lake, Minn.), and Carmelo Kasim (So. – Seattle, Wash.) each recorded one shot on goal. The Blugold defense limited North Park's offense effectively, allowing only four out of twelve shots on target.
The match was notably physical with eight yellow cards issued and 24 fouls committed between the two teams.
Next on their schedule, the Blugolds (2-0-1) will remain in Illinois to face Aurora University on Sunday, September 8th at Holmgren Athletic Complex with kickoff set for 2 p.m.
