The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire volleyball team faced Nebraska Wesleyan University in their opening game of the Auggie Invite, hosted by Augsburg University in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Despite leading in several statistical categories, the Blugolds were defeated in a five-set match.
Bailey Leeke led the offensive effort for UW-Eau Claire with 20 kills, three aces, and 25 points. Mya Cinnamo contributed 12 kills to the team's attack. Hannah Thole recorded 32 assists and led defensively with 18 digs. The Blugolds accumulated nine total blocks, with Makina Larson contributing three block assists.
Although UW-Eau Claire had an advantage in kills, aces, and blocks, team errors allowed Nebraska Wesleyan to gain the upper hand in the second and third sets.
The Blugolds (2-3-0) will remain in Minnesota to play two more games on Saturday, September 7th. They are scheduled to face George Fox University at 10 a.m. and Gustavus Adolphus College at 12 p.m. at Si Melby Hall.
