The City of Eau Claire has released its weekly update, highlighting several developments and upcoming events.

**City Updates:**

**New Bus Tracker Timeline:** In the fall of 2022, Eau Claire began work on a bus tracking system to improve public transit. Due to software issues, the initial implementation was delayed. A new system from EQUANS will be rolled out this summer. The projected date for the new bus tracking mobile app is August 2024. EQUANS will also implement automated voice announcements on buses and integrate with signage at the new Transfer Center.

**New Engine for Station 2:** The Fire Department announced that "A new Engine 2 was placed into service at Station 2." This follows a tradition where crews push the fire engine into the station as a ceremonial gesture dating back to when horse-drawn equipment had to be manually moved into place.

**Dewey Street Bridge:** The Dewey Street Bridge, closed last year due to structural concerns, remains open for smaller vehicles but is now closed to trucks following a recent inspection. The bridge's replacement is planned for 2027 with Federal grant funding.

**High Bridge Honors:** Eau Claire’s renovated High Bridge has been added to the State Register of Historical Places as of May 24th. Originally constructed in 1881, it serves as a pedestrian and bicycle bridge over the Chippewa River since 2015.

**Incident in Hobbs/Carson Area:** Police in Eau Claire identified a suspect from an attempted homicide in Madison who fled and was believed to be in the area around Carson Park and Hobbs Ice Center. After an extensive search involving multiple agencies, it was determined that there was no longer a public safety threat.

**HOME ARP Funding Available:** The City of Eau Claire Housing Division is accepting applications for projects under a $1.1 million allocation from the HOME American Rescue Plan (ARP) Funding aimed at developing affordable housing.

**Upcoming Events:**

- **Summer Activities at the Library:** The L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library has launched its annual summer reading campaign with activities for all ages.

- **Day Resource Center Community Meeting:** Scheduled for June 18th at L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library, this meeting will discuss plans for establishing a Day Resource Center.

- **Fireworks Ceremony Save-the-Date:** Fireworks will be set off on July 4th from High Bridge.

**Employee Spotlight:**

Jessica Achterberg is highlighted this week. Described by co-workers as knowledgeable and great with callers, Jessica works as a Telecommunicator and enjoys golfing despite not being very good at it. She expressed pride in working for her hometown city and shared her love for dogs.
