UW-Eau Claire athletics is teaming up with Scheels Sporting Goods to offer a new camp aimed at providing a positive multisport experience for boys and girls. The Scheels Sport For All Camp, set to take place on the university campus in July, is designed to give youth the chance to learn leadership through athletics in a supportive environment.
According to a spokesperson from Scheels, the partnership with UW-Eau Claire aims to offer more opportunities for the local community's youth to engage in sports and gain exposure to college life. The camp, supported financially by Scheels and sponsors Paul and Mary Smith, seeks to provide equal opportunities for children to explore various sports and develop essential leadership skills.
Paul Smith, a Blugold alumni and longtime supporter of UW-Eau Claire, emphasized the importance of creating opportunities for children who may not have access to many resources. Reflecting on his own experience, Smith highlighted the role sports played in his personal development.
The camp, scheduled for July, will be held at the McPhee Center and Simpson Field on UW-Eau Claire's upper campus. Coaches and current athletes will be present to guide campers in learning different sports and essential skills, offering a valuable educational experience during the summer break.
Head baseball coach Patrick Reilly expressed enthusiasm for the camp, noting the opportunity for young individuals to engage with college student-athletes and participate in physical activities while school is out of session.
The initiative not only provides a platform for youth to explore sports but also aligns with the vision of Scheels and UW-Eau Claire to support the local community and nurture future leaders in sports and beyond.
