2nd St/Hwy 35 Update

10

City of Hudson issued the following announcement on Dec. 3

This will likely be the last project update for this year on the Highway 35 project as work has been substantially completed for the year.

There are a few lingering items that will be resolved over the winter or spring that we have been receiving questions about:

  • We have received many comments on the bump(s) at the Lake Mallalieu bridge. We have passed along the concerns to the WisDOT team, and they are telling us that the issue will be resolved following the bridge epoxy overlay in the spring (see item below). St Croix County plows the bridge in the winter and has been made aware of the bumps.
  • The bridge will be getting an epoxy overlay in the spring. That work was supposed to have been completed this year, but due to delays in construction and weather conditions, the epoxy overlay will have to wait for the spring. Temperatures need to be relatively high while the epoxy is placed to ensure proper adhesion to the bridge deck.
  • Many of the new light poles in the downtown area have been “stood up”. However, the contractor is still waiting for the support brackets to arrive which are needed to support the new “teardrop” light heads. The contractor will not be taking down the temporary lights until the new lights on the east side are fully installed and operational. After that, the contractor will take down the temporary lights on the west side, stand up the remaining new light poles, install the light heads and support brackets, and energize the west sidelights.
  • We are still awaiting resolution with WisDOT on the status of the permanent traffic signal at the 2nd Street/Coulee Road/Buckeye Street intersection. The temporary signal will remain in operation over the winter until the new signal is installed and operational. Some related concrete work will need to be finished in the spring.
  • There are a few remaining catwalks that will be installed in the spring.
  • Any restoration and/or trees that don’t survive over the winter will be addressed in the spring.
  • There are some remaining pavement markings (crosswalk blocks, lane lines, etc.) that will be installed in the spring. As with the epoxy bridge overlay, the temperatures need to be warm enough to support the adhesion of the paint material to the pavement.
