Chancellor James Schmidt of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire has been recognized by the Board of Regents for his contributions to the institution. The board approved a resolution of appreciation highlighting Schmidt's leadership in bringing together various stakeholders to enhance collaboration and innovation at UW-Eau Claire.
The resolution acknowledged several key achievements during Schmidt's tenure. Among these accomplishments is the establishment of a unique partnership with Mayo Clinic Health System and bolstering the university’s reputation in undergraduate research. Additionally, Schmidt played a pivotal role in completing two major capital campaigns through the UW-Eau Claire Foundation, raising over $231 million.
Schmidt also successfully secured more than $700 million for capital improvements at UW-Eau Claire. Notable projects include Pablo Center at the Confluence, The Sonnentag, and the Science and Health Sciences Building.
As he prepares to transition to his new role as president of James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, starting July 1, the resolution expressed gratitude for Schmidt’s service and extended best wishes for his future endeavors.
