The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's lacrosse team opened their season with a 13-10 victory over Centre College in Danville, Kentucky. Reegan Werner, a junior from Farmington, Minnesota, achieved a career milestone by surpassing 100 points as the Blugolds secured their first win.
Samantha Burns, Devon Crews, and Ellie Fisher each contributed three goals to lead the Blugolds. Werner added two points to reach a total of 101 career points, becoming the third player in the program's history to achieve this milestone.
The game saw UW-Eau Claire pulling away in the third quarter after leading 6-5 at halftime. Although Centre tied the game at 7-7, Crews scored to initiate a four-goal streak for UW-Eau Claire. The Blugolds maintained at least a two-goal lead for the remainder of the match.
Victoria Shea added two goals for UW-Eau Claire, while Alexie Romanelli and Werner each scored once. Alexandria Shea made 11 saves to secure the win for UW-Eau Claire in goal. The team also held an advantage in draw controls with a count of 15-11.
Next up for the Blugolds is a neutral site game against Rhodes College on Sunday, February 16th at 11 a.m. Eastern time in Danville.
