Recently graduated University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire football player Harry Roubidoux has signed a contract to play professional football in Finland with the Porvoon Butchers. The former Blugolds quarterback will join the Vaahteraliiga (Maple League) for the 2025 season.
The Porvoon Butchers, based in Porvoo, Finland, have a history of success with seven Finnish championships. After winning the 2023 Maple Bowl, they concluded their 2024 season with an 8-4 record, ultimately falling in the league semifinals to champions Helsinki Roosters. They compete in one of Europe's more established American football leagues.
"I know Finland is a beautiful country, and everyone I've met so far has been great," Roubidoux expressed in a Butchers press release. "The two most important things for me are building team (culture) and winning a championship. I'm looking forward to my first professional season and joining the Butchers."
Roubidoux left UW-Eau Claire as the all-time leader in completions with 683 and pass attempts with 1,232. He ranks second on the Blugolds' leaderboard with 55 career touchdown passes and 7,684 passing yards and was a four-year starter.
In 2024, Roubidoux earned an All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honorable mention after throwing for 18 touchdowns and 2,549 yards.
"The new quarterback will bring new energy and creativity to the team," stated Butchers GM Markku Vuoksenturja in the team's signing announcement (translated from Finnish). "Harry is a really important part of the team's future success."
The Vaahteraliiga season takes place during summer.
Roubidoux joins fellow former Blugold Alex Mashak in playing professionally in Europe. Mashak currently plays for Germany's ifm Razorbacks Ravensburg.
