Nick Amtmann, a senior from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's golf team, began The Thunderbolt tournament with an impressive under-par first round. The event took place at Sterling Grove Golf & Country Club in Surprise, Arizona. Competing against some of the top college golfers nationwide, Amtmann is currently tied for 20th place out of 71 participants after the first round.
The Thunderbolt is an invitational organized by the Golf Coaches Association of America. To be invited, players must meet specific criteria such as being ranked between 200-400 on the WAGR rankings or having received previous All-American honors. Amtmann competes alongside several golfers from major NCAA Division I programs.
In his first round, Amtmann achieved an eagle and three birdies, finishing with a score of 71. He stands at 1-under par and is among 32 players who are under par following the opening round. The current leader holds a score of 6 under par.
The second round will commence at 9:30 a.m. Mountain Time on Monday, December 30. The tournament will conclude on Tuesday, December 31.
