Harry Roubidoux, a senior at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (UWEC), has balanced his academic pursuits with a leadership role on the football field. As quarterback and captain of the team for two years, Roubidoux emphasized that being elected by his teammates was a significant achievement. "It meant a lot to me," he stated about becoming captain.
The process of becoming captain involves delivering a speech to the team, where candidates discuss their experiences and journey through the program. The team votes based on demonstrated leadership qualities. Roubidoux highlighted relationship-building as crucial in leadership roles, noting that understanding individual needs and feedback responses is essential.
Roubidoux graduates this December with an English major focused on rhetorics of science, technology, and culture (RSTC) and a minor in multimedia communication. Initially considering physical therapy, he was drawn to technical writing after learning about career opportunities from his advisor. His internship at Royal Credit Union confirmed his interest in technical writing.
He will graduate with substantial industry experience due to his internship, which involved writing software documentation with clarity and consistency.
Roubidoux also completes his studies with University Honors, which provided him diverse educational experiences beyond his major. He appreciated courses like one on women composers taught by Alex Woods and another on political conspiracies led by Dr. Geoff Peterson.
After graduation, Roubidoux plans to pursue technical writing but will first play professional football in Germany in spring 2025.
