The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team faced a narrow defeat against St. Norbert, ranked No. 2, in their series finale on Saturday at Hobbs Ice Arena. Despite taking an early lead, the Blugolds could not maintain their advantage and lost 2-1 to the undefeated Green Knights.
Jordan Randall, a senior from Maple Grove, Minnesota, put the Blugolds ahead with seven minutes remaining in the first period. His goal was assisted by Danny Reis, a freshman from Waunakee, Wisconsin, and Kyle Bauer, a sophomore from Hastings, Minnesota. This marked UW-Eau Claire's first lead in the two-game series.
St. Norbert quickly responded by tying the game just one and a half minutes later with five and a half minutes left before the first intermission. The Green Knights secured their victory with a game-winning goal late in the second period, scoring with 1:04 left until the break. They managed to keep the Blugolds scoreless in the third period to clinch the win.
Max Gutjahr, a junior from Appleton, Wisconsin/Kimberly, made 20 saves for UW-Eau Claire during the match. The Blugolds successfully killed three penalties and outshot St. Norbert 23-22.
Looking ahead, UW-Eau Claire will host Northland College on Friday, December 6 at Hobbs Ice Arena at 7 p.m.
