A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Town Of Eau Galle on November 7, 2024. The request was made by us at Chippewa Valley Times, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The FOIA request specifically asked for a list of new voters who registered to vote on November 5, 2024. This information is sought under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., and we have requested that it be provided in an electronic format for ease of analysis and reporting.
As members of the media, we are deeply involved in gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records such as these is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
We believe that given our role in disseminating information, we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals. We eagerly await a response from the Town Of Eau Galle so that we can continue our work in bringing important local governmental affairs to light.
