A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request has been sent to the City of Seymour, Wisconsin regarding new voter registrations that took place on November 5, 2024. The request was made by us at Chippewa Valley Times on November 7, 2024.
In our pursuit of comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we sought a list of voters who registered to vote on the specified date under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq. We requested this information preferably in an electronic format for ease of access and dissemination.
As a media organization committed to transparency and holding public institutions accountable, access to such public records is crucial for us. It allows us to fulfill our professional responsibilities effectively and efficiently.
Given our role in gathering and reporting news to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional. We await a response from the City of Seymour regarding this request.
