The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team overcame a two-goal deficit to secure a 3-2 victory over St. Olaf College, completing a weekend sweep at Hobbs Ice Arena on Saturday. Initially trailing 2-0, the Blugolds scored three consecutive goals to claim their second win against the Oles.
The match remained scoreless until the second period when St. Olaf (2-2-0) netted two goals within the first five minutes, taking an early lead. Samantha Bandholz from Richfield, Wisconsin, responded for UW-Eau Claire (2-1-0) with an unassisted goal, reducing the deficit with just under 13 minutes left in the period.
Lauren Ballinger from Shoreview, Minnesota, equalized late in the second period with a short-handed goal assisted by Sam Moehle from Farmington, Minnesota. This brought the score to 2-2 as they headed into the final intermission.
Ashley Wagenbach from Lakeville, Minnesota, scored what would be the game-winning goal less than a minute into the third period during a power play. She was assisted by Kylie Wiltse from Maplewood, Minnesota. The Blugolds maintained strong defensive play throughout and successfully killed an Ole power play to preserve their lead.
Tegan Swanson from Eden Prairie, Minnesota, was credited with the win in net after making 14 saves.
Looking ahead, UW-Eau Claire will face Northland College on Friday, November 15th at Bay Area Civic Center in Ashland, Wisconsin. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
