The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire recently celebrated the achievements of five student-athletes who were named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week for April 22-28. The athletes recognized are Teagan Jones, Yakob Ekoue, Ethan Wurtzel, Demetri Bush, and Hunter Roseth.
Teagan Jones made a notable impact at the Drake Relays by finishing fourth in the hammer throw with an NCAA-leading distance of 195-11 (59.73m). Her performance was distinguished as she was the highest-placing Division III athlete and the only one to secure a top-five position in this event.
Yakob Ekoue also delivered an outstanding performance at the Drake Relays by winning first place in the discus in the University/College flight on April 26. He achieved a remarkable throw of 197-4 (60.16m), marking it as the third-best distance in Division III history and setting a new record for UW-Eau Claire. His achievement stands as this season's leading performance in Division III and was noted as the second-best throw across all divisions at the Drake Relays.
Ethan Wurtzel showcased his skills by winning two singles matches during the week, both requiring him to rally from losing the first set. On April 26, he defeated Reece Patten from College of St. Scholastica with scores of 3-6, 7-6 (3), 10-7. The following day, he overcame Aniketh Vipparla from Carleton College with scores of 5-7, 7-9 (2), 10-4.
In doubles competition, Demetri Bush and Hunter Roseth remained undefeated through three matches at No. 1 doubles during that week. Their victories included overcoming Jonas Abeleda/Eamon Gerrard Stace from College of St. Scholastica on April 26 with an intense tiebreak score of 8-7 (7-5). They continued their success with an additional win against Sree Sharan Kanugovi/Davide Pelletti from UW-Superior and concluded their run with a victory over Jack Rivkin/Cooper Kline from Carleton College on April 27.
These accomplishments highlight both individual excellence and team collaboration among these athletes representing UW-Eau Claire.
