The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire baseball team faced a challenging doubleheader against UW-Platteville on Saturday at Carson Park, resulting in two losses with scores of 9-2 and 11-4. The series finale, initially set for Sunday, April 28, has been rescheduled to Wednesday, May 1 at 1 p.m., still taking place at Carson Park.

During Saturday's games, the Blugolds managed to hit 18 times across both matches but failed to convert these into sufficient runs to defeat the Pioneers. In Game 1, Nicholas Meuser pitched for 6.1 innings and struck out nine players. Despite his efforts, UW-Platteville took advantage of several home runs to secure their lead. The game was tied at one run each after Diego Caicedo hit an RBI single in the third inning. However, a two-run homer by the Pioneers in the fourth inning gave them a lasting lead. Jacob Lacy responded with a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning, but it was not enough for the Blugolds.

Lacy and Drew Salyers were notable contributors in Game 1 with two hits each.

In Game 2, UW-Platteville quickly established dominance by scoring once in the first inning and five times in the second. They added three more runs in the fifth inning before Lacy's two-run homer put Eau Claire on the scoreboard. The Pioneers further extended their lead with two additional runs in the sixth inning. Although Thomas Beardman and Dustan Green contributed RBIs later in the game, Eau Claire could not close the gap.

Salyers, Beardman, and Connor Weik each had two hits during Game 2; Weik notably hit two doubles. Xavier Estrada provided four scoreless innings of relief pitching.

The Blugolds will have a break until Wednesday when they resume their series against UW-Platteville. This marks the beginning of six games over four days as they conclude their season.
