The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's soccer team faced a challenging match on Sunday against the 4th ranked Christopher Newport Captains at a neutral site on the campus of UW-La Crosse. The Blugolds' defense was tested throughout the game, facing 23 shots in a 4-0 defeat.
UW-Eau Claire managed to keep the score close in the first half, allowing just one goal on 11 shots by Christopher Newport. The Captains scored their first goal in the 14th minute, which remained the only goal of the first half.
In the second half, Hayley Von Rentzell and Anna Lorezana provided UW-Eau Claire's only two shots of the day. However, Christopher Newport increased their lead with goals in the 53rd, 56th, and 59th minutes, resulting in UWEC's sixth loss of the season.
Kennedy Boll played for 60 minutes and stopped four out of ten shots. Bella Jones took over for the last 30 minutes and stopped all five shots she faced.
The Blugolds (4-6-1) will begin Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday, October 5th when they travel to UW-Whitewater. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Robert Fiskum Field.
