The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's soccer team commenced the 2024 season with a victory on Friday, traveling to central Minnesota for a nonconference match against the College of Saint Benedict. UW-Eau Claire dominated from the start and secured a 2-0 win, thanks to Johanna Thompson's two goals.
Johanna Thompson (Fr. – Green Bay, Wis.) scored her first goal in the Blugold kit by heading a lofted cross from Molly Henderson (Sr. – Duluth, Minn.) into the bottom corner during a sprinting run into the 18-yard box.
In the 75th minute, Thompson added an insurance goal with another header into the bottom right corner, assisted by Ava Glenn (Jr. – Montgomery, Ill.), marking her first career brace.
Kennedy Boll (Franklin, Wis.) contributed significantly with a seven-save shutout, bringing her career total to 13.
The Blugolds (1-0-0) will host their home opener on Sunday, September 1st against St. Olaf College at Simpson Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
