UW-Eau Claire men’s golf finishes fifth at home invitational

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's golf team hosted the Frank Wrigglesworth Invitational at the Eau Claire Golf & Country Club on Sunday and Monday. The Blugolds finished in fifth place out of 22 teams, ending the tournament 15 strokes behind Illinois Wesleyan, who won with a total score of +17 over par.

Drew Maglio led UW-Eau Claire with rounds of 75 and 74, tying for 13th place among 119 competitors. Maglio recorded five birdies and 22 pars to finish at +7 over par. Spencer Lynch also placed in the top-20 overall after shooting a team-low round of 71 on day one. Lynch made an eagle on hole 18, finishing day one tied for third at even par.

Other contributors included Cameron Stenzel, Luke Taebel, and Ryan Jamieson, who finished in 27th, 33rd, and 49th places respectively. Stenzel completed the event at +9 over par; Taebel and Jamieson ended at +10 and +13.

A second Blugolds team tied for 17th overall. Alec Sosnowski and Bennett Madson both placed within the top-50, finishing at +11 and +13 over par respectively.

The Blugolds are scheduled to compete next weekend in the NCAA Division III Fall Preview at Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. The three-day event will include 24 Division III teams from across the country.
