Uw-eau claire men’s soccer secures home opener victory over elmhurst

UW-Eau Claire’s men’s soccer team opened its home schedule with a 3-0 win over Elmhurst at Simpson Field on Saturday. The Blugolds controlled the match, outshooting Elmhurst 17 to 2 and holding their opponents without a shot on goal.

Owen Williams scored in the 9th minute, assisted by Tate McDermott and Caden Vande Hey, giving UW-Eau Claire an early lead. Carson Kowalski added a second goal in the 24th minute, with Alek Laroi providing the assist. By halftime, the Blugolds led 2-0.

In the second half, UW-Eau Claire continued to press. Owen Backus made it 3-0 in the 68th minute after receiving assists from Alvaro Alanis and McDermott. Elmhurst finished the match with ten players following a red card in the 88th minute.

Williams’ goal came on his only shot of the game. McDermott contributed two assists and had two shots, one of which was on target. Kowalski scored once and placed both of his attempts on goal. Goalkeeper Kalan McIlveen earned a shutout, facing two shots as UW-Eau Claire improved to a 3-1-1 record for the season while Elmhurst dropped to 3-3-1.
