A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Village of Wilson regarding new voter registrations on November 7, 2024.
The request, submitted by Chippewa Valley Times, a media organization dedicated to comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, seeks access to records under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq. Specifically, the organization is seeking a list of voters who registered on Election Day, November 5, 2024.
As a news organization committed to transparency and public accountability, we at Chippewa Valley Times believe access to such public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing the public with transparent information.
Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we have requested a fee waiver as a media professional. We await the response from the Village of Wilson regarding this request for public records.
