A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City of Augusta regarding new voter registrations on November 7, 2024. The request was made by us at Chippewa Valley Times, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
In our quest for transparency and accountability in public institutions, we requested records under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., specifically seeking a list of new voters who registered to vote on November 5, 2024. We expressed our preference for receiving these records in an electronic format.
As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to such public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. Given our role in disseminating information, we have also asked for a fee waiver as a media professional.
