A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City of St. Francis regarding new voter registrations on November 7, 2024. The request was made by Chippewa Valley Times, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
In the FOIA request, we asked for a list of new voters who registered to vote on November 5, 2024. As journalists at Chippewa Valley Times, we believe that access to public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
Given our role in disseminating information, we have requested a fee waiver as media professionals under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq. We await a response from the City of St. Francis and will continue to keep our readers informed about developments related to this request.
