A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Town of Goetz in Wisconsin regarding new voter registrations on November 7, 2024. The request was made by us at Chippewa Valley Times, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
We are seeking access to a list of new voters who registered to vote on November 5, 2024. This information is sought under the provisions of the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., and we have requested that it be provided in an electronic format for ease of analysis and reporting.
As a media organization, we play a crucial role in gathering and disseminating news to the public. Access to public records such as these is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional. We await the response from the Town of Goetz and will continue our efforts in ensuring transparency and accountability within our local government.
