A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City of Evansville regarding new voter registrations on November 7, 2024. The request, filed by us at Chippewa Valley Times, seeks a list of voters who registered on Election Day, November 5, 2024.
As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we believe that access to public records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
The request was made under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., and we have requested that the information be provided in an electronic format for ease of analysis and reporting.
As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional. We await a response from the City of Evansville and will keep our readers updated on any developments.
