FOIA Request Sent to Town Of Wheaton Regarding New Voter Registrations on November 7, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Town Of Wheaton, Wisconsin, on November 7, 2024. The request was made by Chippewa Valley Times, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

The request specifically sought records under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., for a list of new voters who registered to vote on November 5, 2024. This information is critical for our ongoing reporting and analysis of voter registration trends and patterns in the area.

As a media organization, we at Chippewa Valley Times are deeply committed to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Access to such public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities.

In light of our role in disseminating information to the public, we have requested a fee waiver as a media professional. We believe this waiver is justified given our commitment to serving the public interest through accurate and timely news reporting.

We eagerly await a response from the Town Of Wheaton regarding this request. We will continue striving towards transparency and accountability in all aspects of local government operations.
