A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Town of Baldwin, Wisconsin on November 7, 2024. The request was made by us at Chippewa Valley Times, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The request seeks access to public records under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., specifically asking for a list of new voters who registered to vote on November 5, 2024.
As a media organization, we believe in the importance of transparency and accountability in public institutions. Access to such public records is crucial for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include reporting accurate information to the public.
Given our role in disseminating information and holding public institutions accountable, we have requested a fee waiver as a media professional.
We are awaiting response from the Town of Baldwin regarding this matter.
