A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Town of Cady regarding new voter registrations on November 7, 2024. The request, submitted by Chippewa Valley Times, seeks a list of voters who registered on Election Day, November 5, 2024.
The Chippewa Valley Times is a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs. As part of our commitment to transparency and public accountability, we regularly utilize open records laws to access information that helps us in our reporting.
In this particular request, we have invoked the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., asking for the data preferably in an electronic format. We believe that this information will shed light on the number of same-day registrations during the recent election and potentially reveal patterns or trends that could be newsworthy.
As members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. This includes holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we have requested a fee waiver as a media professional.
