Today, Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS) announced their intention to close Sacred Heart, St. Joseph’s, and Prevea’s Western Wisconsin operations. The majority of the closures will occur before April 21, 2024.
Senator Jeff Smith (D-Brunswick) issued the following statement: “Having been born at Sacred Heart and having my children born there, I understand the impact this will have on our communities. I’m hopeful for everyone in the health care community to pitch in and provide the health care continuity for those who need medical assistance and are searching for other options after the closure occurs.”
He added, “For those employed by HSHS, the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development is standing by and ready to help. There are dedicated and knowledgeable staff ready to assist with determining next steps for laid-off employees and providing resources for those looking for jobs or considering worker retraining programs for a new career path.”
Senator Smith also addressed patients affected by these changes: “Patients and families who will face changes to their health care options have the Wisconsin Health Services Department and the Office of Commissioner of Insurance to help navigate through patient needs and health insurance questions. I strongly encourage everyone to take action over their health care choices so we can keep people healthy during this time of transition.”
Patients with questions should contact their local provider or call (833) 344-4373 for Prevea and (888) 307-7099 for Sacred Heart and St. Joseph’s. Additional information, including specific FAQs for patients, is available online at www.hshs.org/western-wisconsin and www.Prevea.com.
