Cost of college went up for non-resident students at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire

In-state tuition and fees were unchanged for 2018-19 at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Wisconsin residents paid $8,820 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $4 more than the $8,816 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 93.8 percent more than residents this year, or $17,095. Their price tag grew 2.1 percent from $16,736 in 2017-18.

About 67 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Wisconsin residents. About 32 percent are residents of other states and 1 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 80 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 1,412 students received grants or scholarships totaling $5.2 million and 1,349 students took out student loans totaling more than $10 million.

Including all undergraduates (11,604), 4,925 students used grants or scholarships totaling $25.5 million, and 5,496 students took out $34.1 million in federal student loans.
