Wisconsin-Eau Claire women’s lacrosse finishes runner-up in WIAC Tournament

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women’s lacrosse team ended their season with a defeat against Colorado College in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) championship game. The match took place at the Sonnentag Fieldhouse, where Colorado College, ranked 15th, secured a 21-9 victory to win their second consecutive conference title.

Colorado College quickly established dominance with an 8-2 lead by the conclusion of the first quarter. Despite attempts by the Blugolds to close the gap, they faced a significant lead from the Tigers, who were ahead 12-4 by halftime. The Blugolds, with efforts from players such as Jess Stiller, Devon Crews, Ellie Fisher, and Alexie Romanelli, attempted to reduce the deficit. However, the Tigers maintained a strong advantage throughout the game. By the third quarter’s midpoint, the Tigers led 14-7 and increased their lead with three consecutive goals.

Samantha Burns and Alexie Romanelli each scored three points, while Ellie Fisher, Paige Kiani, and Reegan Werner contributed two points each for the Blugolds. UW-Eau Claire’s goalkeeper, Alexandria Shea, made 14 saves during the match. The Tigers outshot the Blugolds 44-29. The season concludes with an 11-7 record for the Blugolds, marking an improvement from last year’s third-place finish in the WIAC Tournament.
