The UW-Eau Claire women’s tennis team played two matches on March 18 in Orlando, Florida, splitting the results with a loss to Trinity College and a win over Webster University.
The day’s events are significant for the Blugolds as they demonstrated resilience after an initial defeat, finishing strong in their second match. This performance reflects the team’s ability to adapt and compete at a high level against different opponents.
In their first match against Trinity College, UW-Eau Claire lost all three doubles flights. Reese Burton and Beatriz Felchak were defeated 6-2 at No. 1 doubles, Delaney Hanson and Kiera Schmid lost by the same score at No. 2, while Morgan Briggman and Stella Platt narrowly fell 6-4 at No. 3. In singles play, Aubrey Wittwer secured a win at No. 3 (6-3, 4-6, 1-0), and Briggman added another point with a victory at No. 6 (6-1, 6-4). The remaining singles matches went to Trinity College.
The Blugolds rebounded in their second contest against Webster University. Although Lily Kennedy and Lauren Kwapil dropped a close doubles match (7-6) at No. 1, Taylor Presler and Ava Pellegrino won convincingly (6-2) at No. 2 doubles. In singles play, UW-Eau Claire swept all four flights: Wittwer won decisively at No. 1 (6-1, 6-0), Ana Paula Ricaurte blanked her opponent at No. 2 (6-0, 6-0), Platt took the third flight (6-2, 6-2), and Marin Catencamp finished with a shutout win (6-0, 6-0).
