The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire softball team lost both games of a doubleheader against Hope College on April 4, with final scores of 10–4 and 11–5 at Sonnentag Fieldhouse.
The losses are significant for the Blugolds, whose record now stands at 18–6. The games showcased strong offensive performances from both teams but ultimately saw Hope College secure victories in each contest.
In the first game, UW-Eau Claire fell behind after Hope scored early and extended their lead in the fourth inning with a series of hits and capitalized on errors. Paige Lathrop and Jane Wallace led a rally in the fifth inning, highlighted by Wallace’s two-run home run. Despite narrowing the gap to two runs, additional errors allowed Hope to pull away in the sixth inning. Pitcher Claire Beck struck out four over nearly four innings, while Megan Standiford and Kasey Felden also appeared on the mound. Offensively, Wallace contributed a home run and two RBIs.
The second game saw UW-Eau Claire take an early lead due to errors by Hope but could not maintain it as Hope surged ahead with multiple runs in later innings. Molly Marquardt scored twice for the Blugolds, while Beck added two RBIs with a double. Lauren Trottier started as pitcher before Felden took over; she was credited with her second loss of the season.
According to the official website, UW-Eau Claire Blugolds serve both campus and community through statewide collegiate athletics and utilize various facilities for their intercollegiate teams. The athletic department operates more than two dozen varsity sports teams for men and women representing Eau Claire locally and beyond according to university sources. Since its Hall of Fame began, 271 athletes, coaches, and administrators have been honored according to official records.
Looking ahead, UW-Eau Claire will play against University of Northwestern (Minnesota) on April 8 at Reynolds Field in St. Paul.
