The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men’s tennis team won both of its matches on March 17 in Altamonte Springs, Florida, defeating St. Norbert College 6-1 and Colby Sawyer College 5-2.
These victories are part of the team’s spring competition schedule and reflect the ongoing efforts of the UW-Eau Claire Blugolds to represent their university and engage with the surrounding community, according to the official website.
In their first match against St. Norbert College, UW-Eau Claire swept all three doubles matches to secure the opening point. The No. 1 pair of Pablo Rincon and Danylo Ripeckjy earned a 6-2 win, while Sam Murillo and Billy Hughes matched that score at No. 2. Andrew Mueller and Ethan Leeser completed the sweep at No. 3 with a 6-3 victory. In singles play, the Blugolds won five out of six courts, including straight-set wins by Hughes at No. 3 and Logan Carroll at No. 6.
Against Colby Sawyer College later in the day, Eau Claire took two out of three doubles matches for another early lead. Rincon and Ripeckjy won their match 6-2, while Mueller and Leeser secured a shutout at 6-0. In singles play, Rincon and Leeser each won in straight sets; Hughes and Emilio Monge both claimed three-set victories to clinch the overall win for UW-Eau Claire.
The Blugolds operate under the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire athletics department and field more than two dozen varsity sports teams for men and women according to the official website. They utilize various on-campus and off-campus facilities for their intercollegiate teams as reported by the official website.
Since its inception, UW-Eau Claire has enshrined 271 athletes, coaches, and administrators into its Hall of Fame according to the official website.
The men’s tennis team is scheduled to play Webster University next on March 18 at 11:30 a.m. Eastern Time.
