The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men’s tennis team won a 4-2 victory over UW-Stevens Point in a conference matchup, according to an April 17 announcement.
The result is significant for the Blugolds, who compete as part of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire athletics department and represent both the campus and surrounding community. In doubles play, UW-Eau Claire split matches with their opponents. Sam Murillo and Billy Hughes secured a win at No. 2 doubles with a score of 6-4, while Andrew Mueller and Cohen Newberg were defeated at No. 3 by a score of 6-2. The top doubles match featuring Pablo Rincon and Danylo Ripeckyj was left unfinished with their team trailing narrowly at 4-5.
The singles matches saw strong performances from several Blugold players. Pablo Rincon earned a three-set victory at No. 1 singles (5-7, 6-2, 6-4), while Danylo Ripeckyj added another win at No. 2 (6-1, 4-6, 6-3). Sam Murillo took his match at No. 4 singles (6-2, 6-1), and Emilio Monge battled for a comeback win at No. 5 (3-6, 7-6(4), 6-3). Billy Hughes lost in three sets at No.3 singles (1-6, 6-2,7ā66)), while Jack Michaud was defeated in straight sets on court six.
