UW-Eau Claire secured a 5-0 win over Beloit in a men’s hockey matchup on Thursday night in Beloit, Wisconsin. The Blugolds improved their season record to 5-3-1 and remain undefeated in conference play at 3-0-0. Beloit’s record dropped to 2-4-1 overall and 1-2-0 in the conference.
The game was scoreless after the first period, with UW-Eau Claire dominating shots on goal but unable to convert. Trey Gnetz hit the pipe early, while Luke Lavery had several attempts stopped by Beloit goaltender Andrew Yocum. On the other end, Max Gutjahr saved an early shot from Ben Stewart. Despite a power play following a tripping penalty against Sky Solig, neither team scored before intermission.
Gnetz broke through for UW-Eau Claire at 13:23 of the second period with an assist from Brent Gulenchyn. The Blugolds held onto their lead through the rest of the period as Gutjahr continued to make key saves and Yocum kept Beloit within reach.
In the third period, Tyler Herzberg extended UWEC’s lead at 18:34, assisted by Carter Green. Dayne Hoyord followed with another goal just over two minutes later with help from Logan Ganz. Lavery added a fourth goal at 13:51, set up by Nolan Grier and Easton Inglis. Leo Bacallao closed out scoring at 11:01, ensuring a shutout for Gutjahr who made all 14 saves faced during the match.
“Trey Gnetz scored the game-winning goal and finished with a plus-minus rating of +2. Bacallao added a goal and maintained a perfect faceoff percentage. Herzberg recorded one goal while winning 64% of his faceoffs. In goal, Gutjahr registered 14 saves in a shutout performance.”
