UW-Eau Claire men’s hockey defeats No. 3 St. Norbert in home series

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men’s hockey team earned a 4–2 win over St. Norbert College in the second game of their home-and-home series on Saturday night in Eau Claire. The Blugolds now hold a 4-3-1 record for the season, while St. Norbert drops to 8-3-0.

UW-Eau Claire took an early lead when Luke Lavery scored just over a minute into the first period, assisted by Danny Reis and Nolan Grier. Despite pressure from St. Norbert, including a power play opportunity after Trenten Heyde was penalized, the Blugolds maintained their advantage and finished the period ahead 1–0.

In the second period, Ethan Byrne tied the game for St. Norbert with help from Blake Ulve and Mark Snarr. UW-Eau Claire responded quickly as Lavery scored his second goal of the night at 9:19, assisted by Heyde and Easton Inglis. Kade Peterson then extended the Blugolds’ lead with his second goal of the season at 4:01, with assists from Heyde and Tyler Herzberg. The period ended with UW-Eau Claire up 3–1.

St. Norbert closed the gap in the third period when Calvin Hanson found the net at 6:05, helped by Ben Edwards and Jack Seaverson. Both teams continued to battle defensively until Dayne Hoyord secured UW-Eau Claire’s victory with a late goal assisted by Reis, bringing the final score to 4–2.

Peterson contributed one goal that proved to be decisive for his team’s win. Lavery recorded two goals on four shots during the match. Goaltender Max Gutjahr made 29 saves while allowing only two goals, helping anchor UW-Eau Claire’s defense throughout all three periods. Heyde added two assists and ended with a plus-minus rating of plus-four.
