The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men’s cross country team concluded its season with a 27th place finish out of 32 teams at the 2025 NCAA Championships in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The team accumulated a total of 649 points during the meet.
Senior Jack Hesse-Withbroe led the Blugolds by finishing 24th overall, earning All-American honors. He is the first UW-Eau Claire men’s cross country athlete to achieve this recognition since Mason Shea, who finished 39th at the NCAA Championships in both 2024 and 2023.
Hesse-Withbroe’s performance capped a strong senior year. “His honor comes following a strong senior season. Throughout the year, he consistently found himself placing near the top of the field. The senior ran his collegiate best at the WIAC Championships finishing third. His 10th place finish at the NCAA Regional meet helped push the men’s team to their NCAA Championship birth.”
In addition to Hesse-Withbroe’s accomplishment, sophomore Andrew Thaler placed 164th and senior Ian Barnes finished just outside the top 200 in 205th position. Other Blugold runners included Jack Nelson (225th), Cooper Feltz (259th), Troy VerStrate (272nd), and Gavin Stewart (278th).
