The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire baseball team secured a 9-6 victory over St. Olaf College at Mark Almli Field in Northfield, Minnesota. This marked their final non-conference game of the season.
UW-Eau Claire, with a season record of 8-28, took an early lead by scoring four runs in the first inning against St. Olaf, who have a 20-14 record. This initial charge included RBI singles by Drew Salyers and Carter Vieth. The team extended their lead with a home run each from Will Johnson and Austin Buck, resulting in an 8-1 lead midway through the game.
St. Olaf narrowed the gap by scoring three runs with two RBI doubles in the fifth inning, making it 8-4, and added two more runs in the seventh, reducing the deficit to two runs. The Blugolds managed an additional insurance run on a wild pitch in the eighth inning. Ty Sagedal secured the win by closing out the ninth inning without conceding any runs.
Harrison Esau notched the first win of his college career by pitching four innings in relief, conceding only two runs. Buck topped the batting lineup with a 2-for-4 game and added a stolen base.
The Blugolds will conclude their season in a four-game Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference series against UW-River Falls on May 2-3, starting with a doubleheader at Carson Park at 10 a.m. on May 2.
