The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire baseball team split a doubleheader against the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh on March 29, winning one game and losing the other at Tiedemann Field. The Blugolds dropped the first game 11–1 but came back to win the second contest 9–6.
The results are significant for UW-Eau Claire, which improved its season record to nine wins and five losses overall, with three wins in conference play. The games also highlighted both teams’ performances as they continue their seasons in collegiate athletics.
In the first matchup, UW-Eau Claire struggled offensively, managing six hits but scoring only once late in the game. A series of errors and strong pitching from UW-Oshkosh led to a decisive eighth inning where multiple runs were scored by Oshkosh. Pitchers Tyler Webb, Paul Goryl, and Trey Gnetz took turns on the mound for Eau Claire but could not prevent an insurmountable lead.
The second game saw a turnaround as Eau Claire rallied with four runs in the ninth inning. Austin Curti’s two-run triple was pivotal in securing victory after John Digregorio had started things off with a solo home run. Devin Nedland started for Eau Claire, while Cooper Senne and Sebastian De la Toba contributed key relief innings to help close out the win.
Players such as Digregorio and Curti stood out offensively throughout both games. Will Johnson contributed three hits and scored three runs during the day’s action. Buck added defensive support with four assists along with his offensive contributions.
