The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire’s women’s track and field team has seen one of its own, Kayla Behnke, achieve a significant academic accolade. Behnke, a senior from Appleton, Wisconsin, has been awarded first team Academic All-America honors by College Sports Communicators for the 2025 season. The announcement was made on Tuesday.

This recognition marks a notable achievement for the Blugolds’ women’s track and field team, as Behnke is the first to receive such an honor since 2013. Known for her excellence in throwing events, she boasts a perfect 4.0 GPA while pursuing double majors in computer science and mathematics and statistics and applied math.

Athletically, Behnke secured three first team All-America honors this season with top-eight finishes in discus, weight throw, and hammer throw at both indoor and outdoor national competitions. She also claimed the title of Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champion in weight throw during the indoor season and holds the UWEC school record for this event. Her efforts contributed to the Blugolds finishing fourth at the NCAA Outdoor Championships this spring.
