Shue, an upcoming nursing graduate from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, is poised to start his career in trauma intensive care in Rochester, Minnesota. Inspired by his mother’s long nursing career, Shue has always aspired to help others.

“In high school, I knew I wanted to help people,” Shue stated. “I liked the teamwork aspect of nursing and I liked the critical thinking and problem solving. I knew it had to be nursing.”

His decision to attend UW-Eau Claire was influenced by the institution’s reputed nursing program and the opportunities a liberal arts college offers. He found the university’s environment conducive to his personal and academic growth, participating in various activities, including the Blugold Marching Band.

“One of the highlights of my career here was being part of the marching band,” Shue noted. “It was the most fun I have ever had. It really gave me a sense of community.”

Shue played a significant role in supporting male nursing students through the Men in Nursing organization.

“We can talk to them about what the future looks like — almost like a peer mentoring group,” Shue said. “If you had a really good clinical day, tell somebody about that. On the flip side, if you had a really bad day, try to talk about it and get it out.”

He further engaged in student-faculty research with Dr. Melissa Skoff, aiming to prepare future nurses for end-of-life discussions.

“He conducted the original literature review last summer and took charge of the undergraduate research component by mentoring other students,” Skoff stated. She attested to Shue’s leadership qualities, expressing confidence in his future as a professional nurse.

“Aaron’s dedication and character ensure he will excel in the nursing profession, positively impacting his colleagues and patients,” Skoff affirmed. “The nursing profession is lucky to have Aaron and I’m excited to see what his bright future holds.”
