The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire wrestling team competed at the MSOE Invite in Milwaukee on Saturday, finishing fourth out of 17 teams. Nine Blugolds placed fifth or better in their respective weight classes.
Gavin Hanrahan was runner-up in the 133-pound class after advancing to the finals with two pinfalls and a 5-2 decision. He won his semifinal match against Truman Folkers from Cornell College in a tiebreaker, 11-4, but lost to St. John’s Connor Krueger by a 4-2 decision in the final.
Jackson Peak secured third place in the 197 division. After earning a pinfall and an 11-0 major decision, Peak reached the semifinals but was defeated by Augsburg’s Ethan Swenson, 10-6. In the third-place match, he pinned Carthage College’s Elvis Muja in 1:32.
Finn Bloomquist also finished third at 149 pounds. Bloomquist recorded a pinfall, a narrow win by decision (7-6), and a major decision (17-4) to reach the semifinals before losing to Chicago’s Maksim Mukhamedaliyev. He then posted victories of 13-7 and 6-5 to secure third place.
Parker Kamm, Blakelee Bastien, Brady Brewick, and Ben Peterson each earned fourth-place finishes in their divisions. Kamm advanced with two technical falls and two decisions before falling by major decision for third place. Bastien made it to the third-place round with two decisions, a tech fall, and a pinfall but lost narrowly to Bloomquist (6-5). Brewick had two pinfalls and won by sudden victory before losing his final match for fourth at 165 pounds. Peterson tallied two tech falls and a major decision but dropped his last bout against Augburg’s Apollo Ashby for fourth at 174 pounds.
Calvin Singewald took fifth place after winning with a major decision (14-2), while Jayden Sheppard also finished fifth due to medical forfeit.
The Blugolds are scheduled to compete again on Wednesday, December 10 in WIAC competition against UW-La Crosse at 7 p.m.
