UW-Eau Claire’s women’s hockey team secured a 3-0 victory over defending champions UW-River Falls on Saturday in Eau Claire. The win improves the Blugolds’ record to 6-1-0 overall and 3-0-0 in conference play, while UW-River Falls drops to 4-1-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the conference.
The game remained scoreless through the first two periods, with both teams exchanging opportunities but unable to convert. Goaltender Kambelle Freije made several key saves for UW-Eau Claire, stopping all 35 shots faced during the match. Defensive efforts from Ava Bullert and Lauren Ballinger helped keep UW-River Falls off the scoreboard.
In the third period, Madisyn Krumholz broke the deadlock at 15:45 with an unassisted goal that proved to be the game-winner. Keira Bolt added a second goal at 10:43, assisted by Krumholz and Sam Moehle. Krumholz scored again with an empty-net goal at 00:27, assisted by Kylie Wiltse.
Krumholz finished with two goals and one assist, leading her team offensively. Bolt contributed a goal on her only shot attempt. Bullert recorded four blocks on defense, while Ballinger won 71% of her faceoffs and posted a plus-minus of +3 alongside Krumholz.
Freije’s performance in net was critical for UW-Eau Claire as she earned a shutout against a strong River Falls offense.
