Kayla Behnke of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women’s track and field team was named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Field Athlete of the Week for March 30 to April 5, according to an announcement on April 7.
Behnke earned this recognition after a strong performance in recent competitions. She secured first place in the discus event with a throw measuring 148-9 (45.33 meters), which currently ranks first in the WIAC and seventh nationally among NCAA Division III athletes. In addition, she placed third in the hammer throw with a mark of 165-10 (50.55 meters), which stands as second best in the conference and eighteenth nationally.
The honor is determined by an anonymous vote among WIAC head coaches and Sports Information Directors. The UW-Eau Claire Blugolds serve both their campus and surrounding community through statewide collegiate athletics, according to the official website.
The Blugolds utilize various on-campus and off-campus facilities for their 25 intercollegiate teams, as reported by their official website. Since its inception, their Hall of Fame has enshrined more than 270 athletes, coaches, and administrators.
The athletic program operates under the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire athletics department, fields over two dozen varsity sports teams for men and women, and represents Eau Claire while engaging with its local community according to information from their official site.
