Erin Sullivan, a long-time member of the Blue Devil Athletics team, will assume the role of Director of Athletics and Recreation at the University of Wisconsin-Stout starting July 1, 2025. Sullivan has been with UW-Stout for two decades and has served as deputy director of Athletics since 2022. She will take over from Duey Naatz, who announced his retirement earlier this year.
Chancellor Katherine Frank highlighted Sullivan’s leadership qualities and commitment to student-athlete success in announcing her appointment following a national search. “With a proven record of leadership and a deep commitment to student-athlete success, Erin will be instrumental in fostering a championship culture at UW-Stout,” Frank stated. “Her vision aligns perfectly with our goal to achieve excellence in competition, while also developing well-rounded individuals who excel both on and off the field.”
Sullivan holds an M.S. in education from UW-Stout and a B.S. in sport management from UW-Parkside, where she played basketball. She attributes her readiness for this new role to her participation in the NCAA Pathway Program during the 2023-24 cohort.
In accepting her new position, Sullivan expressed gratitude towards those who supported her journey. “I’m honored to step into this role and lead the Athletics and Recreation Department at UW-Stout,” she said. “I want to thank Chancellor Katherine Frank, Search Chair and Dean of Students Sandi Scott, and the entire hiring committee for their trust and support.”
Naatz praised Sullivan’s capabilities as he prepares for retirement in September. He described her as “the best deputy athletic director and teammate in the country,” adding that he plans to assist during the transition period.
Sullivan began her career at UW-Stout as an assistant women’s basketball coach from 2003-07 before moving on to roles such as assistant athletic director (2008-14) and associate athletic director (2014-22). In her current capacity as deputy athletic director, she oversees internal operations including budget management, event management, facilities oversight, camps, clinics, and athletics communication.
As she becomes UW-Stout’s 10th athletic director, Sullivan looks forward to future achievements within Blue Devil Athletics. “I’m excited to continue working alongside our student-athletes, coaches and staff,” she remarked.
