The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men’s track and field athletes Yakob Ekoue and Blake Postler have been recognized with postseason awards by the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC). The announcement was made on Monday, highlighting their achievements in the WIAC Outdoor Championships.

Yakob Ekoue, a senior from Hopkins, Minnesota, was named the Field Performer of the Meet for his third consecutive season. This achievement makes him the first individual in conference history to receive this honor three times. Ekoue’s performance included a first-place finish in the discus with a throw of 191-9 (58.45m), setting a conference championship record. He also secured second place in both the shot put (58-1 3/4 – 17.72m) and hammer throw (193-4 – 58.93m).

Blake Postler, a freshman from Weston, Wisconsin, attending D.C. Everest, earned the title of outdoor Newcomer of the Year. Postler set a conference season best by winning the 400-meter hurdles in 52.60 seconds. Additionally, he achieved second place in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.47 seconds and participated in securing second place for his team in the 4×400-meter relay.

A newcomer is defined by WIAC as a student-athlete who has used his season of participation in men’s outdoor track and field during this season. Transfers are not eligible unless they did not participate in men’s outdoor track and field at their previous institution.
