Blugold Swim and Dive teams fall to St. Cloud State University

Blugold Swim and Dive teams competed against St. Cloud State University in a dual meet held in St. Cloud, Minnesota. The men’s team scored 90 points compared to St. Cloud State’s 207, while the women’s team finished with 80 points to SCSU’s 220.

For the men’s events, Zhander Rowley led with first-place finishes in both the 100-yard breaststroke (58.10) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:09.73). Jack Gunderson took second place in the 100-yard breaststroke (58.20) and also finished second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:03.46). Emmett Botten secured second place in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:59.14 and contributed to a third-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. Drew Testin placed third in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:47.74 and was part of a relay team that took second place in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:26.69).

The men’s team had several other notable performances, including Derek Stadheim finishing second in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:06.80). In diving events, Tait Johnson achieved third place on the one-meter board, while Charlie Nohner took third on the three-meter board.

On the women’s side, Elaina Plonis earned first place in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:12.83. Faith Oswald came in second for the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.76) and fourth for the 50-yard freestyle (25.83). Amanda Hyland placed second in the demanding 1000-yard freestyle at 11:08.03 and third in the 500-yard freestyle (5:33.40). Annie Hippen recorded a second-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke (2:12.69) and third place for both the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.93) and 200 individual medley (2:22.08).

The women’s team also saw Amber Winter take second place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:09.84, while their relay squad claimed second position in the women’s 200 yard freestyle relay at a time of 1:41.95.

“UWEC had strong performances in several events, highlighted by Rowley’s victories in the 100 yard breaststroke and 200 yard breaststroke,” according to event organizers.

“The Blugolds’ women’s team captured multiple top finishes, highlighted by Elaina Plonis winning the 200 Yard Butterfly in 2:12.83,” said coaches following Saturday’s meet.

Next up for Blugold Swim and Dive is a home meet against UW-Stevens Point scheduled for Saturday, November 22 at 1 p.m.
